GRITGIRLS: WHO WE ARE

Women’s brains are 8% smaller than men’s, but have more interconnections.

RUN THAT BACK. Just read it for me one more time.

I'm just going to take this and run with it metaphorically. We are, 9 times of out 10, not as big, not as fast, not as powerful; I hated to learn this as a little sister incessantly trying to prove that I could keep up with my big brother, I loathed learning this sparring with guys half my age in the boxing ring.

THE THING IS WE GET THERE THOUGH,

we grind and weave and wiggle and insist in the face of physical challenge in a way that men just don't. We show up and train after being up all night with a congested baby, after commuting every day through the bridge and the tunnel and then some other bridge, WE BRING SPORTS BRAS IN PURSES and change in the car straight from work, we grab our kids sippy cups on the way out the door when we can't find a water bottle, we hit mitts in empty parking spots in underused parking lots, we drag 200 pounds of gear up hills JUST TO TRAIN WHERE WE WANT TO BE,

even if its not where we are "supposed" to be,

we sweat out our hair despite the presentation we have at work tomorrow, we bring breast pumps with us everywhere, WE TRAIN IN THE PITCH DARK so we can get it in before the kids wake up, we improvise to elevate, compromise to conquer, we show up to workouts frustrated and exhausted and go on rants processing our life and jumprope our way through the tears,

we bring our babies,

and let them mess up all the drills and move all the cones, we take important conference calls during the session and sign language our way through the workout, we train through tears, we fight back weak bladders from childbirth that leak during agility drills, we bond and grow and laugh and decide it's time to be in the best shape of our life at 70 years old, we do ruthless workouts in fancy hotel stairwells in between business lunches and all-star games, we break our acrylic thumbnails learning a right uppercut, we show up 7 minutes late with no hair tie and mismatched socks and still finish 100 burpees, they judge us as they walk by while we re-invent, re-model, re-build our bodies and minds WHILE we carry the weight of our children and relationships and careers on our shoulders because

WE ARE GRITGIRLS.
